Account Locked After Resetting Password
Sometimes after your password has been reset, you will still be unable to sign into your account. This is usually because something is attempting to sign into your account using your old password.
Log Into Your Laptop
Even if you can't sign in to anything else, you can often sign into your laptop with your old password immediately after your password has been reset. Note: This will only work on computers you have signed into before.
1. From the lock screen on your laptop, click, press any keyboard key, or swipe up on the screen to get to the login screen.
2. Look for the WiFi symbol in the bottom right of the screen. Click on it, and put your device in airplane mode.
Your laptop should now be disconnected from the internet, and will use your old (saved) password when you sign in. If your old password doesn't work, you can also try your new one, but this will likely not work.
Sign Out of Your Accounts
- On your laptop, sign out of the Outlook app. This can sometimes save the wrong password, and use it when attempting to retrieve your emails. You will need to sign back in once your laptop is reconnected to the WiFi.
- Make sure that your phone is disconnected from the MSOE wifi network. If your phone has saved your old password, it can use it to attempt to connect to the WiFi, and lock you out of your account.
- Sign out of the Outlook app on your phone (if you have it installed)
If you have followed these steps and are still having issues with your account, or need help reconnecting to the MSOE WiFi network, you can email helpdesk@msoe.edu, call (414)277-7288, or visit the helpdesk in the Campus Center building.
