Congratulations Graduating Seniors!

You have made it through your MSOE Degree, and now you are moving on to bigger and better things! As part of this process, there are a few steps you can take to ensure the process goes smoothly, and as quickly as possible.

Here are the Basics:

Account Expiration - Approximately four months after your graduation, you will permanently lose access to all Outlook, Box, MyMSOE, and any and all other MSOE services. This process is irrevocable, and all files are deleted upon completion.

Graduate Laptop Processing- Graduate Laptop Processing involves installing a fresh, Out-Of-Box-Experience of Windows 10 on your laptop and transferring ownership of the laptop to you from MSOE.  To schedule a visit to the Help Desk, please schedule a Grad Image - (Dropoff) appointment through Bookings at

Before your laptop is grad-processed, please back up all the data you don’t want to lose. Sign into OneDrive to backup your Documents, Desktop, and Picture files to the cloud.  The deadline for grad imaging is the start of the following quarter. Earlier is better.

Moving MSOE Emails into Personal Email Account:

Note: Your MSOE account must be enabled for this procedure to be viable. If your MSOE account has been disabled, there is no longer any ability to access or otherwise engage with the emails in that mailbox.

  1. If the Outlook desktop app is not already installed on your computer, download and install it by signing into, pressing the "Install Office" button near the top right-hand corner, and choosing "Office 365 apps":
  2. Follow the prompts to install the Office products (including Outlook), signing in with your MSOE account credentials if/when requested.
  3. Once installation is complete, open the Outlook app and sign in with your MSOE email account.
  4. Add the personal email account to which you would like to move your MSOE emails to the Outlook app:
    1. Press "File" in the upper lefthand corner of the Outlook window, then press "Add Account" on the Info tab:
    2. Enter your personal email address into the "Email address" field on the resulting window and follow the prompts to successfully add the personal account to the Outlook app:

    3. You may need to restart Outlook to complete the addition of the personal account to Outlook. Once you have done so, you should see the account listed on the navigation bar on the lefthand side of the Outlook window and mail from that account synchronizing into the Outlook app:
    4. Wait for all messages like this one ("Synchronizing 'Inbox'") to clear from the bottom of the Outlook window; only then will all of your emails in your personal email account be synchronized into Outlook and only then can you begin to copy MSOE emails into your personal email account:
  5. Manually copy the folder(s) containing your desired/necessary mail from your MSOE account to your personal email account:
    1. Right-click the folder in your MSOE email that you would like to copy and select "Copy Folder" from the menu that appears:
    2. Select your personal email (or a particular folder within that email) as the destination to copy the emails to, then press OK:
    3. Wait for all the emails to successful copy over to your personal email account. Messages like the following will disappear from the bottom of the Outlook window when everything has been successfully copied:
    4. Repeat steps 1-3 for all folders in your MSOE account that contain emails you would like to keep access to even after your MSOE account gets disabled.
  6. Sign into your personal email on a separate client (e.g., if using a personal Gmail or Outlook account, perhaps a web client) and confirm that all emails have been successfully copied over:
    1. If some emails are still missing, keep the Outlook app open on your computer and periodically check back on the separate email client. Do not close the Outlook app until it is verified on the separate client that all emails have been successfully copied over to your personal email account.
  7. Uninstall Outlook desktop app (remember: your ability to use the Outlook app will go away as soon as your MSOE account is disabled, so this cannot be used as your long-term email app).
    1. Search "add or remove programs" in the Start Menu and select the option with that name that appears:
    2. Find the program in the list called Microsoft 365 Apps and press the Uninstall button:
    3. Follow the prompts to uninstall all Office programs, including Outlook, from your computer.
  8. Access your personal email (now including your migrated MSOE emails!) from now on using Windows 10 Mail, a web client, or another preferred email client.

Automatically Forwarding/Redirecting Emails received by MSOE Email Address to Personal Email Address:

Automatic forwarding/redirecting of emails received by your MSOE email address to a personal email address is not supported by MSOE IT. There is no ability to execute these functions under university policy.
